Shame is an unnecessary part of grief.

Shame crushes our ability to grieve. We must grieve the one we lost, not the action that we could have done better.

I felt ashamed over Dave’s death. If I had done CPR better. If I had only realized he was having a heart attack and called for help. I had endless guilty thoughts. Today’s sixty-three year old Tim would hug and weep with eighteen year old Timmy and quote Romans 8:1: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Shame crushes our ability to grieve. We must grieve the one we lost, not the action that we could have done better.
